RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship provides an introduction to the basic skills required before taking a small boat to sea or taking an active part in running a boat. Although knowledge of the subjects covered is not a requirement for the practical Competent Crew course, this is the theory course that complements this level. Subjects include a basic introduction to charts, buoyage, navigation, safety, tides, weather forecasts, pilotage and passage planning. Essential Navigation and Seamanship is a two-day course. The course needs a minimum of 3 people to run, but the maximum class size is just 6 people to ensure more individual attention. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be issued with an RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship shorebased course completion certificate. We can also supply a G158 log book for CHF 20.00 on request.

This 2-day course requires a minimum of 3 people to run and is on offer in Laax every Wednesday and Thursday through the ski season. In addition to scheduled dates, we will generally put together a course whenever we have 3 people to make up a group.
We can also offer the course on a private or semi-private basis - ask for pricing. Are you a non-skier in a family of skiers? Then why not come to Laax – they can ski while you learn something looking ahead to the summer!
Since our courses run for very limited numbers of students, we rely on your attendance for the course to be viable. Therefore if you cancel, we cannot offer any refund.
However if you have to cancel because of illness, a serious life event or force majeure, we will do our best to accommodate you on another course, in other words your fee will be credited to a future course.
If we have to cancel e.g. for lack of numbers, we will do our best to accommodate you on the next course (subject to availability), offer you a private or semi-private option at extra cost, or give you a full refund.
