The RYA Day Skipper qualification is increasingly becoming the minimum standard required to skipper a boat in the Mediterranean, either on flotilla or especially for bareboat charter, and it is not possible to pass the practical course without demonstrating knowledge of the subjects covered in the theory course. These subjects include: seamanship, including terminology, ropework, safety, the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (colregs), navigation including chart familiarisation, use of chart instruments, the compass, position fixing, tides and tidal streams, passage planning, pilotage and basic meteorology. Upon successful completion of the course, you will possess the theoretical knowledge you need to navigate a small craft safely by day in familiar waters and will be issued with an official RYA Day Skipper shorebased course completion certificate. We can also supply an RYA G158 log book for CHF 20.00 on request.
None, other than fluent English. However around 5 days’ previous experience on a yacht (e.g. Competent Crew or equivalent) is strongly recommended.
Minimum age 15
Price includes: RYA Day Skipper student pack (includes exercises, course notes book, training charts, exam papers), RYA Training Almanac, Portland plotter and dividers set, together worth CHF 95.00, as well as the exams at the end of the course and certificate on successful completion.

Other info: The course requires a minimum of 3 people to run. In addition to scheduled dates, we will generally put together a course whenever we have 3 people to make up a group. We can also offer the course on a private or semi-private basis, or as a “fast-track” option combined with the Day Skipper practical course over 2 weeks on our yacht - get in touch for pricing.
The exact venue is TBA but scheduled courses are usually run in the Zurich area or Laax. Courses can also be run in the Romandie and Ticino if there is sufficient demand and/or on request for private groups that can fill the minimum capacity.
Since our courses run for very limited numbers of students, we rely on your attendance for the course to be viable. Therefore if you cancel, we cannot offer any refund.
However if you have to cancel because of illness, a serious life event or force majeure, we will do our best to accommodate you on another course, in other words your fee will be credited to a future course.
If we have to cancel e.g. for lack of numbers, we will do our best to accommodate you on the next course (subject to availability) or give you a full refund.
